Half Zip Sweater

$9.00

This half-zip pullover sweater is going to change your fall-wardrobe game. The mock turtleneck collar and front kangaroo pocket give it an elevated twist while being ever so comfortable. The separate pieces on the top and bottom make this pattern perfect for color blocking and scrap busting! The zipper instructions are very clear and easy to follow, so if you've never sewn a zipper before, this is an awesome pattern to start with! In fact, this pattern was the first zipper for several of our testers. The pattern comes in sizes NB - 9/10 and includes options for hood or collar.

Please make sure to read through the instructions thoroughly before getting started!

A quick note before you dive in: Our patterns include multiple files so you can sew the way you like—at home on a printer, at a copyshop (A0), or with a projector.

    Quick answers

    • After checkout, you can download your pattern from the confirmation page, from the email we send, or anytime under Account → My Downloads using the same email you purchased with.
    • Your files come in a .zip. It’s easiest to download on a computer, unzip, and you’ll see: Instructions, Letter/A4, A0, and a Projector file.
    • Printing at home? Open the Letter/A4 PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader and print at 100% (Actual Size), then check the test square.
    • Prefer no paper? Use the Projector file. It includes a calibration layer so you can confirm scale before you cut.
    • Need a big print? Send the A0 file to a local copyshop or an online printer.
    • If you get stuck, email hello@lowlandkids.com and we'll be happy to help!

    Downloads & accounts

How do I get my files?
Right after payment you’ll see a download button on the confirmation page. We also email you links in your order confirmation email. And you can log in to our website any time and find everything under View Downloads.

    What pattern files are included?
Four PDFs: Instructions, Letter/A4 (home printing), A0 (copyshop), and Projector.

Can I download on my phone or tablet?
Yes! Check out our Printing and Projector tips page for specific guidance.

    Projector sewing (quick start)

Do your patterns include projector files?
Yes—our current catalog includes projector-optimized files for nearly all patterns. You’ll see “Projector” listed in each download.

    How do I check scale?
Open the Projector file and turn on the calibration layer. Confirm the 1” / 2.5 cm squares measure correctly. If you move your projector or cutting surface, re-check before you cut.

    Any setup tips?
Keep the text/markers layer visible. If labels look faint, check your PDF viewer’s accessibility settings and disable “replace document colors.” You can also enable the black background layer for higher contrast.

    Print-at-home (Letter/A4)

    1. Open the Letter/A4 PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
    2. In the print dialog, choose Actual Size (100%) and auto portrait/landscape.
    3. Print the page with the test square first; measure to confirm scale.

    Troubleshooting:
    • If the whole pattern prints on a single page, you likely opened the wrong file (use Letter/A4, not A0 or Projector).
    • If lines look fuzzy or misaligned, try “Print as image,” make sure your printer driver is up to date, and restart your computer.

    Copyshop / A0

Download the A0 file and send it to a copyshop or an online service. Many sewists print a single master copy and trace sizes as needed.

Note that we protect our patterns by locking the pdf files to prevent editing in tools like Adobe Illustrator. In rare circumstances copy shops might use software that invisibly requests edit access and will show errors when attempting to open our files.

Layers (print only the sizes you need)

All patterns include layers. Open the Layers panel in Acrobat Reader and hide sizes you don’t need. This keeps lines clear and makes grading between sizes easier.

    Sizing & skill level

Each product page shows the skill level and links to the size chart. If measurements land between sizes, it’s common to use the width of one size and the length of another.

    What machines do I need?

A regular sewing machine is all you need to start. A serger is optional but great for knit fabrics and tidy seams. A coverstitch is helpful for professional hems but not required.

Can I sell what I make?

Yes—items must be sewn by you personally. Mass production or outsourcing isn’t allowed. For manufacturing inquiries, email us.

    Need help?

We’re happy to troubleshoot downloads, printing, or projector setup. Email hello@lowlandkids.com and include your order email and a screenshot of your issue if you can.

    Half Zip

"I have already gotten so many compliments on this pattern. I had a little trouble with the collar. I didn’t see there was a video tutorial until after I completed it, but that definitely helped a lot and will use those tips for the next ones! I paired it with the weekender pants and love the combo."

    Christy L. (5/5)

    Half zip tiny perfection!

"I made this in between 0-3 and 3-6 for a 12lb 3 month old. Polartec power grid hw and foe for finishing. No pocket. The instructions are very straight forward and the cutest finished product!"

    Teresa S. (5/5)

    love it

"The pattern is well written and easy to follow. I adjusted it a bit because I wanted to make something simular to a tiny patagonia quarter zip fleece. I struggled a bit to get the zipper in."

    Vivien S. (5/5)

    Great pattern

"I made this right after purchase and it went relatively smoothly. I am not a new sewist but made the mistake of using a metal zipper and nearly lost my mind when I kept breaking needles while sewing/ serging over the bottom of the zipper. So, don't do that. The instructions were very clear, much better than I have seen from other companies. There is obviously a lot of care put into them. My kid also fit perfectly into his size, something that doesn't happen often so it was nice not to have to make a bunch of adjustments. As for how it was received; he wouldn't take it off and wore it for three days straight. It's a winner."

    Fantastically Written Pattern

"For Christmas all my child asked for was a quarter zip. Once I found this I knew all his Christmas wishes would come true. I was able to wip it up in one afternoon, while he was at school. and HE was so happy with it. I imagine I will be making this in all sizes!"

    Rachel K. (5/5)

    Half zipper

"I greatly enjoyed sewing this sweater. I made two. 1 for my grandson 6 year old and 1 for my grandson almost 1 year old. The zipper gave me some struggle mostly because of the fabric. I Will surely use this pattern very often. I made some mods. I did cuffs and waistband not separate but cut the fabric longer and did elastic in the hems."

    Janneke S. (5/5)

    The instructions were very difficult

"The instructions were very difficult to follow. Luckily, there was a tutorial on YouTube for producing the sweatshirt. I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner. I had, mostly, difficulty with the biais tape. But, it is a beautiful sweatshirt !"
