Our Story

Hi - I’m Shalayne 😊. A few years ago I realized that, like many of you, I could save money AND make a little side money by sewing clothes for my kiddos.

In 2016 my sister and I started a company called Gingerlayne and we sold hand-made burp rags and bandana bibs for babies. It was a blast!

Buuuut, pretty quickly I learned I had much more fun sewing a variety of different pieces.

So naturally the next step after winding down our company was to start a new little boutique. It was called Lowland Kids. Where’d the name come from? The lowlands of Houston, Texas, where my first daughter was born.

I loved seeing other people love the clothes I was making. However, I ended up spending much of my time at first hacking, and then eventually creating my own patterns from scratch to get the look I wanted.

I’ve always been a bit of a geek 🤓 and so I dove deep into learning the tools and technicalities of the pattern-making trade. As my skill improved I put out feelers to see if anyone wanted to test out my first pattern - the PJ Pants (this was in December 2018). The response was overwhelmingly positive. We stopped selling clothes to focus 100% on our patterns. We were off to the races!

From day one I’ve designed my patterns with three main criteria:

  1. Comfy - clothes your kids will actually wanna wear
  2. Modern - simple, stylish clothes
  3. Simple - keeping the fluff to a minimum, our instructions are easy to follow

Lowland Kids has been a passion project for me and I’ve loved every minute of it. Stay tuned because we’ve got much more coming!
