Pocket Shorties
These pocket shorties are super cozy and cute! They feature a simple little pocket and working drawstring.
The pocket shorties are pretty different from the original Lowland shorties. They're drafted with a higher rise, slightly wider cut, and new waistband construction method. Featuring pockets (obviously), a working drawstring, and two elastic options: 1.5" or 2".

Super easy and cute pattern!
Hi. I made 3 pairs of these recently. I’m quite an experienced sewist so I questioned some of the instructions but I followed them exactly on my first pair. I would like to present some ideas to consider adding/clarifying to the pattern. 1) immediately after finishing the pockets I suggest they be basted to the shorts front both at the top and at the sides before sewing them at the sides. 2) I also found that it was a lot to manage and extremely thick (French Terry on shorts/slub on waistband) when attaching the waistband. I didn’t have enough fingers to make sure all layers were being sewn together while at the same time stretching elastic to fit. The 3rd pair I made (3-6 months) I used narrower elastic. I trimmed the fabric on the band so that there was maybe a quarter inch of fabric showing. I sewed the elastic to the band. Then I sewed the other side to the shorts. That means I was sewing 2 layers only together. Next I enclosed the elastic between the waistband and pinned the waistband down covering the inside seam as best I could and sewed close to the edge. I finished as you suggested going forward by topstitching in the middle of the band. The way I did it makes for a less bulky section where the waistband is joined to the shorts. The 3rd pair is the blue. It was also a thinner material than the first 2 pairs I made. I love the finish and the pockets really give it a lot id class ❤️❤️❤️ I’ll try to add a picture separately

They are easy to make, great style, love them.
These sewed up really cute! I love that there is the option to make them with or without pockets. I will say this pattern was a bit more challenging for me when putting the waistband on in the pocket area, but when I do a quick stitch to hold the pockets down the waist goes on much easier. These are a staple in my little guy's wardrobe!

This pattern is just great. The instructions work very well and it offers great flexibility to sew rather easy shorts with small add ons to make them more interesting if needed. My only note for newbies like me is to be aware that a wider stretch band will also add more tension. So you might consider making it a bit longer. Thanks a lot for making sewing more fun!
