Surf Shorts
The surf shorts are an awesome pattern for chilling at the beach, swimming, or even for a nice dinner! Though you can use any knit or woven fabrics (with a few small adjustments for woven), this pattern was designed with stretch boardshort or stretch woven in mind. With a faux fly and working pockets, these shorts are a perfect grab for almost any occasion!
The kids version of these shorts has a slim fit. To get the right fit, be sure to read through the instructions, size up if needed (with non stretch woven), and make a muslin before cutting into your pretty fabric! Sizes NB - 9/10.
Options:
- Faux fly
- Pockets (front and back)
- hemmed or bound with bias tape with a curved side
Pattern Type:
PDF (Includes Layered Pattern and Instructions) - Letter, A0, Projector
Skill Level:
Beginner
Sizes & Fabric Quantity:
All Sizes: 1/2 Yard/.5 meters
Materials:
- Stretch Boardshort or Stretch Woven - my favorite fabric to use for this pattern
is stretch boardshort fabric (when swimming). Stretch woven works great
for every day shorts and depending on the contents could work for swimming
as well.
Another option is non stretch boardshort or regular woven but if you use non
stretch, I highly recommend adding an extra 1/4” (.6cm) to the pattern pieces
and then use a 3/8” (1cm) seam allowance while sewing. See page 8 of the instructions for more details! - Drawstring - optional
- Interfacing - optional (for working drawstring)
- 1 1/4" elastic

How do I receive my pattern?
Right after purchasing, you will be directed to a confirmation page where you can download the files. You will also receive an email with a link to download your files. You can always log back in and see your files.
It will come in .zip format so it's best to download and save it somewhere on your desktop!
What kind of machine do I need to sew your patterns?
A sewing machine is a must. If you are really wanting to get into making clothing though, I HIGHLY suggest getting a serger. Sergers make everything easier and cleaner. They also sew with knits a lot better than regular sewing machines!
I also own a coverstitch machine which has been a game changer. It's definitely not necessary but it is an amazing machine to have if you want your clothes to have a professional finish.
Can I sell clothes I make from your patterns?
Yes, as long as you are the one sewing the clothes (you may not outsource to a manufacturer or otherwise mass produce the clothes). We love seeing our designs come to life!
Interested in outsourcing or manufacturing? Email us at hello@lowlandkids.com.
We love to see your work and we appreciate when you tag #lowlandkids :)
Can I share patterns I buy?
No. We spend a lot of time and effort on each of our patterns and instructions. If people are interested in using Lowland Kids patterns you've acquired, please direct them to our website.
How Do I know what size to print?
Once you download the pattern, open up the instructions and there is a sizing chart that will help you decide which size to print! If your kiddo is in between sizes you can always take the width of one size and length of another.
Can a beginner sew your patterns?
Yes! We have patterns for beginners and experienced sewists alike. In the description of each pattern there will be a level of difficulty and it's up to you to decide!
Do you support Layers?
YES! Each pattern has layers incorporated so you can just deselect any sizes you don't want to print!
