Materials :
- Medium weight woven fabric for the original version and boardshort for the swim version.
- 3/8” (2cm) Twill Tape
- Brim Material: See pages 5-8 of instructions for detailed material options.
- 3/4” -1” (2cm - 2.5 cm) Elastic (Sun Hat Option)
- 1” (2.5 cm) Hook and Loop Tape (original version)
- 3/8” (1 cm) Size Strip or Stabilizer cut to size (refer to page 14 of instructions for more info.)

Troubleshooting:
- If the whole pattern prints on a single page, you likely opened the wrong file (use Letter/A4, not A0 or Projector).
- If lines look fuzzy or misaligned, try “Print as image,” make sure your printer driver is up to date, and restart your computer.

My husband loves 5 panel hats but his favorite (the black one shown on the right in my picture) is no longer sold and he has a hard time finding ones that fit well and are good quality. I immediately jumped on this pattern when I saw it come out! The instructions were super straightforward and when I found myself needing a little more visual help, the video tutorial was awesome. It is so fun to see something entirely different from my “go to’s” sew up. I’d never even considered being able to make a hat and really loved the process. Overall, nothing but good things to say! My little girls have already started designing their hats after watching me make their dad’s. Needless to say, I see lots more hat making in my future!
*In case anyone is debating what to do for the brim, I bought the sheets of brim material off Etsy that was suggested in the instructions and found it to be really great to work with!
I bought this for sun hats for my kids but have ended up making myself one and haven't actually done the kids yet. It was an easy pattern to follow for the most part and easy to cut out; I used the projector file which saved me some time. I managed to make it all using haberdashery scraps I had in the drawer which was a bonus. Only negative I have is I couldn't understand how to sew in the sweat band even though I used the video tutorial as well. I managed to bodge it well enough but still keep to work out the "proper" way. Will definitely make more.
I printed the pattern only, it looks great and easy to make. I can’t wait for my fabric so I can made it.
The tutorial says to cut a strip of bias tape (sweatband) of 2.5” and then on the same page, it says to cut a strip 2.75”. This is for adult size. For the brim, it didn’t mention the type of brim. I bought 40 short cap brims because they were out of a pack of 12. When I went to cut the pattern pieces out, I realized I needed the visor brim type. There is no mention how long the 1” hook and loop tape should be for the straps. I fb commented on the announcement post and posted my questions separately, but only one tester commented and they didn’t really answer my questions. I emailed Lowland my questions on August 8th and I’ve only received the automated response email, and another email letting me know that the designer was on vacation and they’ll respond back once the designer is back. I only got that email because I tagged another designer on fb letting them know I hadn’t heard back from my email.
Haven't made it just yet I had to get a few supplies for it but I did read the instructions and also watched the you tube video and it looks so easy to do I can't wait for my supplies to arrive as I am making 7 of these for my great grandkids! I'm so excited 💙💜💙💜💙
